"The Tools of Change for Publishing Conference aims to explore and inspire advances in book publishing," explains Sarah Milstein, conference chair. "Many publishers are already pushing out the edges of the industry and finding new ways to do business. TOC will give them a forum for sharing their experiences and a place to learn from each other. We expect participants to leave the conference excited and energized--and ready to lead innovation in their companies."
Highlights from the program also include these speakers and sessions:
- Bob Pritchett, Logos Bible Software: "Business Models that Guarantee Profitability in Publishing"
- Kelly Gallagher, RR Bowker: "So Much Data. . . So Little Time"
- Stephen Smith, Crossway Books and Todd Sotkiewicz, Lonely Planet: "Direct Sales: Lesson from the Shopping Cart"
- Allen Noren, O'Reilly Media: "Beyond the Book: Online Content Distribution for Book Publishers"
- Rikard Linde, Enklo AB: "Why Do People Pay for Things They Can Get Free?"
- Derek Powazek, author and cofounder of 8020 Publishing: "The People Formerly Known as the Audience"
- Lydia Varmazis, Adobe Systems, "How is Reading Evolving?"
While many publishers can see that technology is changing the ground on which publishing rests, few have the knowledge to recognize the true challenges and opportunities presented by these changes. The O'Reilly Tools of Change for Publishing Conference will decipher the avenues for change in this industry and help cut through the hype for a more profitable future in publishing.
