Sebastopol, CA—Cool tools are those that work. A cool tool can be any book, gadget, software, video, map, hardware, material, or website that you really use and really like. Originally submitted to Wired founding editor Kevin Kelly's Cool Tools website, the reviews collected in Cool Tools in the Kitchen: Things We Recommend (O'Reilly Media, $5.99 USD) were written by readers who have actually used the stuff. They only review things—old or new—that they like.

"This is a curated collection of the best cool tools for the kitchen," says coauthor Steven Leckart (@StevenLeckart). "Consider this a jumping-off point for thinking and re-thinking about what's possible in your kitchen. Think of this book as a very knowledgeable best friend recommending the coolest stuff in no uncertain terms."

Unlike most O'Reilly Media ebooks, Cool Tools in the Kitchen is available in only one format: ePUB (but like all O'Reilly Media ebooks, it's DRM-free). Editor Brian Jepson explains, "The ePUB format has some unique strengths and capabilities, and we planned this project with Kevin Kelly from the beginning as an exploration of how far we could take ePUB to bring the Cool Tools experience to an ebook."
