Industry luminary Sam Newman joins the O’Reilly Infrastructure & Ops Conference as external cochair
BOSTON—November 15, 2019—O’Reilly, the premier source for insight-driven learning on technology and business, today announced Sam Newman as the external cochair of the O’Reilly Infrastructure & Ops Conference, a new franchise focused on foundational technologies including cloud services, containers, microservices, and AI and operations. Newman will join internal conference chair Kelsie Pallanck, a senior content director at O’Reilly. The 2020 Infrastructure & Ops Conferences will take place June 15–18 in Santa Clara, CA, and November 16–19 in Berlin, DE.
Newman is an independent consultant specializing in helping practitioners ship software fast. His extensive work with the cloud, continuous delivery, microservices, and software deployment makes him a natural fit to oversee the Infrastructure & Ops Conference program. For the last few years, he’s been exploring the capabilities of microservice architectures, working with a variety of companies globally in both developer and IT operations capacities. Previously, Newman spent a decade at ThoughtWorks. He’s also the best-selling author of Building Microservices and the recently released Monolith to Microservices.
“I’m excited to help O’Reilly shape the new Infrastructure & Ops Conference. The space of infrastructure and the role of operations has changed drastically over the last decade, and that change is far from over,” said Newman. “As technology continues to advance and we look to build applications in new and different ways, it becomes vital to understand how these forces change the landscape for infrastructure and operations, and this event will help practitioners navigate this changing world.”
Alongside Newman, cochair Pallanck brings more than 15 years of event programming experience to the Infrastructure & Ops Conference, as well as the O’Reilly Open Source Software Conference (OSCON), which she also chairs. Previously, she was an event content producer at MIT Technology Review. Pallanck is skilled in analyzing industry trends and enhancing attendee experiences, bringing the conference program to life.
“For engineers, developers, tech leads, and software architects, the Infrastructure & Ops Conference will provide valuable lessons and thought-provoking discussions on how to future-proof your business,” said Pallanck. “I’m thrilled to cochair this event with a respected technologist like Sam and bring attendees an inspiring, practical, and information-rich program.”
The O’Reilly Infrastructure & Ops Conference was established to help practitioners successfully migrate their systems to a modern infrastructure with minimal interruption to their business. The call for speakers is open now through December 10, and the full conference agenda and speaker list will be available in February.
