O'Reilly Offers Powerful Test Utility For Oracle Pl/Sql Developers

September 7, 2000

Sebastopol, CA--Bestselling author and trainer Steven Feuerstein announces the utPLSQL Project, a unit-testing framework for Oracle PL/SQL developers. Patterned after the popular Junit framework for Java developers, utPLSQL is intended to fill a gaping hole in utilities available for PL/SQL coding.

It is widely felt, but rarely acknowledged, that few Oracle developers complete thorough unit testing of their software. While this is due partly to deadline pressure, the lack of a lightweight, easy-to-use unit testing tool has also served as a deterrent.

With utPLSQL, developers will now be able to build and easily run comprehensive unit tests, composed of multiple test cases. Test execution is automated and results are analyzed for correctness by the utility, rather than the developer.

"I am confident that as developers learn about and use utPLSQL, they will see their productivity improve and the quantity of bugs in their code shrink dramatically," said Feuerstein. " We will gain more confidence in our code and take more joy in the work we do."

O'Reilly and Associates has provided a web site and discussion board to make utPLSQL as widely available as possible. Developers can visit:

http://utplsql.sourceforge.net/

to download the utPLSQL software, read full documentation describing the ideas and architecture of utPLSQL, including a guide to using the utPLSQL API, and visit the utPLSQL discussion board, where developers exchange ideas about utPLSQL and unit testing in Oracle.
